The New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging, through a grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, presents The Care of the Aging Medical Patient in the Emergency Room (CampER), a comprehensive, competency-based geriatric curriculum for emergency medicine residents. The curriculum, which includes 12 presentations, was developed by geriatricians and emergency medicine physicians and includes instruction on principles in caring for the older adult and the management of common geriatric emergencies that highlight atypical presentation of disease and evidence-based treatment strategies.
Pain is the number-one reason patients see their doctors or visit an emergency room, so it makes sense to treat it first and treat it well. Nurse Practitioner Lora Meyer explains how a patient with chronic pain is treated at the Franciscan St. Francis Health Pain Management Center, and how the nurses here help patients turn their lives around. She also shares why she chose St. Francis to practice nursing.
